Game Science (游戏科学) is a Chinese game company, known for its representative work Black Myth: Wukong.
Description[]
After working on Asura Online, Feng Ji (冯骥), and Yang Qi (杨奇) left Tencent and formed Game Science Interactive Technology Co., Ltd (游科互动科技有限公司) in 2014.[1]
The company's first project, "Bai Jiang Xing" (百将行), was developed in a week. It underwent two rounds of testing in April and May 2015 and was publicly tested by NetEase on July 23, 2015. The game provided initial development funds.
Their next project, "Art of War: Red Tides,"[2] an RTS game, was released on Steam for testing and later launched on the App Store on September 29, 2017, receiving recommendations in 154 countries and regions.
After developing two games, Feng Ji established five core principles for game development, including "immersive growth-driven gameplay" and "uncompromising high-quality graphics."[3]
Art director Yang Qi initially proposed the "Black Myth: Wukong" concept in 2016 but was shelved as premature. "Black Myth: Wukong" was revisited after "Red Tides" and officially started in 2017. The project faced staffing challenges, which led to the release of a demo video to attract developers[3]. The game's trailer, released in August 2020, garnered significant attention in mainland China, leading to a surge in job applications from other developers eager to join the team. The Game moved to Unreal Engine 5 by 2021. Tencent invested in Game Science in March 2021[4].
